World Vision is an international Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation. The main activities of its local office, World Vision Malaysia (WVM), is educating the public about the plight of the underprivileged and raising funds for their relief and outreach activities.

WVM realised that they needed to engage their target audience through new channels, especially the Internet. WVM wanted to promote their One Life Revolution campaign that would take place in March 2008. They turned to Buzzmedia Online Marketing for an online marketing campaign that would make of social media channels like Facebook and blogging.

Buzzmedia delivered a plan that engaged their target audience through social media that was effective, low cost and spread through word of mouth. Buzzmedia designed and launched the Official World Vision Malaysia blog, started the World Vision Malaysia Facebook Page and set up the World Vision Malaysia YouTube channel.

Buzzmedia then orchestrated the execution of the One Life Revolution awareness campaign with a social media calendar that plotted exactly when to post new content to the blog and invite Facebook friends to their One Life events. The result – a spike in visitors to the blog and huge awareness on Facebook of their event.

In the week of their One Life event, the number of new Facebook fans of their page soared to 854. To date, WVM’s Facebook Page has more than 1,600 fans. Better yet, more than 2,000 people attended their One Life Revolution event due to the awareness raised through these social media channels.
In addition to executing the campaign, Buzzmedia also drafted social media policies and guidelines for WVM staff and provided coaching all along the campaign.

“The use of social media channels in additional to conventional channels definitely boosted the awareness for our One Life Revolution event as the majority of our target audience is young and familiar with this medium ” said Khoo Hsien Ling, Communications Officer of World Vision Malaysia.

“Buzzmedia was a good partner in helping us to navigate this new territory. David from Buzzmedia provided us valuable input and took the time to explain the nuances of blogging and Facebook marketing to us.”

The campaign has had secondary benefits too. The Official World Vision Malaysia Blog helps WVM connect directly with their target audience in a far more effective way then their corporate website.

“The blog is so much easier to update than our corporate website. We can easily post new content including videos to our blog without needing help from a third party. Best of all, the public can connect with us directly through the comments feature on the blog,” explains Khoo.

If you would like to incorporate social media channels or corporate blogging into your marketing mix, please contact us and we’ll be happy to provide you a free consultation.
